[0:00] President Trump is washing his hands from the party's brutal midterm losses. [0:05] He's blaming everyone from Fox News to the candidates, not himself. [0:09] How are these former allies making sense of the losses and what does it say about the future of the movement? [0:17] Well, I want to get straight to senior correspondent Doni O'Sullivan, who's been sifting through the far right media all day. [0:23] Doni, nice to see you. What's the reaction there? [0:27] Hey, Dana. Yeah, I mean, the far right and just the general MAGA universe has been taking these losses pretty well in that they are not contemplating a coup or a possible insurrection. [0:41] We've gotten so used to over the past few cycles, particularly since 2020, of so many of these voices challenging the integrity and the results of these elections. [0:50] We're not hearing that tonight over the past 24 hours. [0:54] I'm going to play a quick clip for you from the Steve Bannon show last night that I think really sums up the attitude. [1:01] You're going to need a strong cocktail after this. [1:03] I know it, but talk to me about Greg Abbott. [1:06] This is the stunner of the night, sir. [1:08] I may have already had it. [1:10] I may have already had a couple of sips already tonight, Steve. [1:13] This has been just absolutely brutal. [1:16] This is a dagger in the heart of America. [1:20] This is the oil and gas capital of the world. [1:24] What happens to oil and gas in Texas? [1:28] So, Dana, there's also been plenty of talk today about, you know, the fears, as many in MAGA media would put it, as of communism and socialism. [1:37] Of course, they are referring to the Democratic Socialist wing of the Democratic Party there and talking about how dangerous, in their view, that will be for America. [1:45] But all in all, compared to more recent election cycles or any time Trump or Republicans have lost over the past few times, it's a pretty, what you would expect to be, a relatively normal response. [1:59] Yeah. [2:00] I mean, you know, it tends to come from the top, and we're not hearing that from the president this time, which probably is a part of why it's not being reflected in MAGA media. [2:10] We heard, sure, Michael, earlier on this program say that he thinks that this is the end of MAGA, or the beginning of the end of MAGA, that it's pretty much dead. [2:20] You spend a lot of time with senior members of sort of the grassroots part of MAGA and sort of the rank and file. [2:29] What are you hearing from them about their view on at least the next two years, Doni? [2:35] Yeah, Doni, I mean, I think that was such an important point that when you say the message comes from the top, we know, in fact, we were prepared embracing ourselves really for this huge infrastructure that has been built up over the past few years on election denialism for them to mobilize today, tomorrow, and going into the weekend as they contest some of the results of these elections. [2:57] The fact that Trump sent that message early last night, you know, they say in the sort of the lexicon in the MAGAverse is that they made it too big to rig. [3:08] That is what MAGA has been telling Republicans to do over these last few years. [3:12] That is what happened to them last night when it comes to the Democrats. [3:15] I do want to play just one more quick clip for you that sort of sums up as we look into what's happening over the next two years going into 2028, what the right wing are saying about it. [3:26] One of the things you have to ask yourself is, is it possible now that Republicans turn to an outsider in the 2028 presidential election because Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance, the two strongest candidates inside Trump world, may own a big part of these failures. [3:45] There's a cold place in hell, folks. [3:46] That's all I can tell Trump and his family and that Jared Kushner and those degenerates and all the insider trading, all of it. [3:54] Just them, them all. [3:56] And Dana, what's notable there is first you heard from John Solomon, who's still very much sort of in the sort of MAGA circle, the Trump circle, talking about potential trouble for J.D. Vance and Marco Rubio going to 2028. [4:11] But Alex Jones there, who has broken with Trump many months ago because of Israel, because of Iran, that was another thing that happened last night, that many of the people, many of the most vocal proponents of election denialism over recent years had already broken with the president. [4:29] Many of them, of course, on issues like Israel, Jeffrey Epstein when it comes to Marjorie Taylor Greene. [4:36] And so that part of his base had already broken off. [4:39] The American people sent a clear message, including many of our voters, including this unique coalition that the president was able to assemble in 2024. [4:49] You look at Texas, for example, where the president won 55 percent of Hispanics, 34 percent of black men. [4:54] We lost all of them. [4:56] And the message was clear. [4:58] Gas is too high. [4:59] Diesel is too high. [5:00] The deal with Argentinians is hurting our farmers. [5:03] The cost of living we did not resolve. [5:05] We had a mission here coming out of the Biden-Harris administration. [5:08] And the president articulated, I think, a pretty good case, which is why you saw his ability to bring in all of those unique coalitions. [5:14] But as far as I see it as a Republican strategist, I think the MAGA movement is frankly over. [5:19] The president has had 10 years. [5:20] That's a long run, an incredible run. [5:22] He certainly realigned politics as we know it. [5:25] But I think the people have sent a message not only to the president but to my party that this is not the type of politics they want. [5:32] Do you know, Ashley, we heard the president, well, we heard the vice president blaming the war. [5:36] And Donald Trump Jr. quickly gave him an attaboy, said 100 percent, yeah, that's what it was. [5:41] The war didn't just start itself. [5:43] It wasn't just this thing that descended Pearl Harbor. [5:46] This was something which the president, I mean, he claimed he had obliterated Iran's nuclear capabilities previously. [5:54] Yes. [5:55] Attacked reporters who said maybe that didn't happen and now started this war himself. [6:01] And always and continued to move the goalposts. [6:04] It was going to be just a week or a day and then it was a month and then it was and now it's nine months. [6:10] And then it wasn't a war. [6:11] And then it wasn't a war. [6:12] I don't I don't you know, it's like we're not stupid. [6:15] We have ears and we have eyes and we have brains and we can hear what Donald Trump is saying. [6:20] And no matter how much he says, let them eat cake. [6:24] We know we are in war and we do not want to be in war. [6:26] And the American people said not on our watch. [6:29] Now, I don't know if the MAGA movement is over or not. [6:31] But it is it will I will know when these folks come back to the Hill and how they behave because they have time from now until this new class comes in to do some things. [6:42] Is he is this going to be a lame duck Congress or are they going to still try and push things through? [6:47] Are they going to put a check some balances? [6:48] Because if they don't, it's still the MAGA party. [6:51] Well, also, Alex, I mean, the president wrote on social media, I wasn't on the ballot. [6:55] And if I was, we would have won in a landslide. [6:57] And I just want to remind viewers what the president was saying in rallies in the days and weeks leading up to this election. [7:04] I'm on the ballot. Just pretend I'm on the ballot, please. [7:09] I'm asking everybody to pretend, just pretend that I'm on the ballot, because in a way I am on the ballot. [7:16] Pretend, please, that I'm on the ballot. Just pretend. [7:19] I'm asking you to pretend I'm on the ballot. [7:22] So if you would pretend I'm on the ballot, just say Trump's on the ballot. We have to vote. [7:27] OK, I've told the president now taking questions at the ballroom. Let's listen. [7:33] Last last night was the war in Iran. [7:36] Well, I think it's largely true because it drove the gasoline up a little bit short term. [7:42] And probably that's probably it's true. [7:44] But at the same time, if I had it to do again, I'd have to do it again. [7:47] Because long term, it's the only answer. You can't let Iran have a nuclear weapon. [7:51] Do you feel like it was worth it? [7:53] I do. Yeah. I mean, well, you have no choice. [7:55] I mean, I thought the oil would go up a lot more. And I did it on that basis. [7:59] You have no choice. You have to do it. [8:00] You can't let Iran have a nuclear weapon or everything that you see here someday might not exist. [8:07] And maybe this, but this building might be the only one that does. [8:11] So, yeah, I think that, look, I mean, I'll get along probably with the Democrats unless they want to be destructive. [8:18] But they have the power of the veto. So if we don't like what they're doing or they'll they've already called and they want to talk about things. [8:25] And that's fine. But yeah, people, the Iran thing we had to do and we continue to do it. [8:32] We have tremendous oil flowing out of the hormones right now. [8:35] At the beginning, there was none. And probably that's the primary reason. [8:40] I don't know.
