[0:37] right now some stuff to say here today i've been doing this a long time sherry talks about the [1:40] first time i came here did not have a single gray hair one and and so i've been doing this a long [1:53] time and and and some people might say a little too long and one of those one of those people [2:01] is michelle obama but she gave me a hall pass this weekend and when you have been campaigning [2:20] as long as i have been campaigning when you've worked as many elections as i have you can tell [2:31] when an election comes along that just feels a little bit different an election where people [2:39] are so ready for something new so hungry for something better so sick and tired of being [2:46] sick and tired that everywhere you go it feels like change is in the end in ohio that's how i'm feeling [3:01] right now that's what you get a chance to do in 10 days after two years of chaos and cruelty [3:14] and corruption and incompetence the likes of which we have not seen in modern times you get a chance [3:24] to say enough's enough we are voting for change right here in ohio and and the great thing is here [3:40] in ohio you can vote early through november 1st so so so don't procrastinate don't equivocate [3:50] make a plan to vote early in person or on election day if you need to find out how to do it go to [3:57] i will vote dot com slash oh oh some things don't change i love you back ah you've heard some great [4:16] speakers i do not have to tell you how tough things are out there but i do think i do think it's it's [4:27] worth reminding ourselves how we got here and the promises that the current occupant of the white house [4:35] was making on the campaign trail two years ago boom by the way y'all must not have been to my rallies [4:43] before because you know you're not supposed to boo what are you supposed to do correct they can't [4:49] hear your booze they they'll hear your vote now now two years ago there were a lot of people who [5:05] they weren't crazy about the guy's character but they were frustrated about post-covid inflation they [5:14] were seeing prices go up and they heard him make a bunch of promises to get costs under control [5:23] and those weren't the only promises he made he also promised he'd impose tariffs that would bring [5:30] down the deficit he promised he'd stop getting us involved in unnecessary wars [5:37] he promised he'd pass a beautiful health care bill the most beautiful bill that would make everyone's [5:43] lives better that's so i think we should examine how did these promises work out first of all if [5:58] you thought everything cost too much before you know who everything is more expensive now your mortgage [6:10] costs more your health care costs more your utility bills cost more interest rates are up and and then [6:17] there's gas four dollars a gallon five dollars a gallon diesel is over six and climbing i want to be fair [6:28] as a former president i can tell you sometimes sometimes sometimes factors beyond the president's [6:36] control end up foiling the best laid plans that happens a president doesn't have control over the [6:45] entire economy but that is not the case here in this case this administration's actions are directly [7:00] responsible for rising costs the current president chose to make a series of bad decisions [7:15] most importantly he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for and nobody voted for [7:22] now this is this is something i know a little about let's think about this iran war the original [7:35] rationale was we're going to go in there and get them to give up their nuclear program their nuclear [7:41] weapons now the thing was iran didn't have nuclear weapons because i had put a deal in place everybody [7:52] acknowledged kept them from getting nukes and i didn't have to fire a missile to do it i just had [7:58] to engage in diplomacy he pulled out of it starts this war seven months later six months after they [8:12] declared victory because remember they said well this is the best war ever it's going great so so seven [8:21] months later how's that war going our allies and our bases have been attacked americans have been killed [8:32] hundreds of americans have been wounded we have run down our stock of missiles and iran now has veto [8:43] power over the strait of hormuz where oil goes through to the world market this is the reason why the [8:52] price of oil is up nobody disputes that this is the reason the price of diesel is up this is the reason why [9:03] the price of just about everything is up meanwhile you got the defense secretary who's who's squarely [9:13] focused wait wait don't boom wait wait wait no no no he's very focused on important matters like [9:22] the jaw lines and testosterone levels of our troops and and live streaming executions because that's how [9:32] he thinks you cultivate that manly warrior spirit how much time do you think this defense secretary spends [9:43] looking at himself in the mirror in the morning i mean he's you know he's you know he's working his [9:52] hair because that's how warriors look these are not serious people not serious people and the problem [10:04] is you end up having to pay the price for their lack of seriousness well prices aren't the only reason [10:13] prices keep going up there's also this whole tariff business our current president loves tariffs loves [10:21] them when you impose tariffs consumers pay the tab because it's it's not just the goods that you use [10:36] directly that have been imported from someplace else it's also the car you build here in america [10:41] they might need to park from somewhere else and now suddenly there's a tariff on it so the prices go [10:45] up he was warned about that no no no that's not what's gonna happen this is gonna be great everything's [10:50] gonna turn out great no that's not what happened in fact tariffs helped contribute to rising prices [11:01] and and the big trade war he's starting now is with that well-known evil empire canada canada [11:14] i mean these are the people who gave us maple syrup and and and martin short these are the canadians [11:24] are the they're the nicest people they're so nice they're like our our friendly neighbors to the north [11:33] and he's he's like picking a fight with them and instead of bringing down deficits like he said with [11:42] these terrorists we're now running a debt to the tune of 40 trillion dollars 40 trillion now you would [11:54] think that with all this going on our current president must have at least passed some legislation [12:02] to bring down prices you would think right but of any significance in the last two years was a trillion [12:20] dollar tax break that mostly benefited the richest americans don't what did i say what did i say [12:30] don't boom i've heard presidents done some things folks wanted to do like tightening up the border and you [12:46] know what i believe that we do need to make sure that our border is orderly and secure and that [12:52] people who want to come here do so lawfully and in fact when i was president i got criticized by [13:00] by some close democratic allies for tightening up enforcement at the border but i don't call anybody [13:10] campaigning on sending mass agents running through our streets i don't recall anybody talking about law [13:17] abiding citizens being arrested detained or shot we did not ask for that that's not what we have to [13:25] do to get our borders under control so when you go through all this the tally of promises things have [13:45] not worked out the way we might have expected although i must say i did expect it and and let's be honest [13:57] does anybody really think this guy in the white house right now is spending all that time thinking [14:01] about these issues i i mean i i don't know if you've noticed but he seems very focused on home [14:10] renovations he should be on hgtv guys building a ballroom that's bigger than the white house it's [14:22] paved over the rose garden put a helicopter pad on the south lawn and and there's gold everywhere [14:29] what's up with the gold everything more gold he's got the white house looking like saddam hussein [14:38] opened a cheese cake factory there's gold everywhere he's clearly not focused on lowering prices for [14:53] you now there is one thing he does seem to focus on in addition to home renovation and that is how to [15:02] enrich himself and his family and his crumbs just look at the last couple of weeks we've got a u.s [15:11] united states ambassador shaking down a donor to pay off a hundred thousand dollar credit card bill [15:17] then we learn there's a venezuelan billionaire who wanted a pardon paid one of trump's personal lawyers [15:27] 50 million dollars to be general counsel at a company nobody knows anything about and lo and behold he [15:34] gets the pardon falls out of the sky and and this culture is set at the top we have never seen a [15:45] president excel so wildly it just straight up drifting on your dime never seen a president so intent on [15:55] selling favors and shaking folks down we have lost count of all the deals he and his family have done [16:08] from meme coins to taxpayer-funded contracts for his kids companies and this is someone who has become [16:18] billions of billions of dollars wealthier in office and and and by the way this is not disputed i'm not [16:24] making this up it's all there and not a single republican in congress has done anything to stop him [16:38] not john houston not any of the republicans on the ballot here in ohio most of them have supported [16:46] him every step of the way so you you remember that whole thing about drain the swamp the only thing that [16:53] got drained was the reflecting pool in the national mall after some no big contract got it all messed [17:01] up and then they tried to blame a three-time olympian and say he vandalized it all right i mean the list [17:11] could go on and and and here's here's the tough part all right like it or not so i want a little reality [17:21] check we got two more years in this administration well wait wait wait i mean wait hold up i mean i'm just [17:32] that's how our system government works but you know what you know what we're not stuck with we're [17:42] not stuck with a spineless congress and republican governors who are enabling lawlessness and carelessness [17:53] and cruelty and indifference for working people we don't we're not stuck with that we're not stuck [18:01] with folks who are enabling policies that take more and more out of your paycheck and cut your health care [18:08] and drive up prices we're not stuck with that this election is our last best chance to at least [18:17] rein in some of the foolishness of this administration it's the circuit breaker in the system [18:25] we need to flip that circuit breaker we need to start bringing some accountability to this administration [18:33] and just as important we need to start showing the american people who are hungry for solutions [18:41] what real leadership looks like what concrete plans look like that actually lower costs and [18:48] actually make health care more affordable and make housing more affordable and get utility bills [18:53] under control we can't just be against this administration's behavior we have to start [18:59] showing them what a future on the other side of this administration can look like and that [19:13] starts with you ohio that starts with you that starts with electing amy acton governor sending [19:22] sherrod brown to the united states senate for them almost feel bad for their republican opponents almost [19:43] because after spending the past couple years just singing this president's praises doing his bidding [19:53] they've now come to realize pretty upset about all these broken promises so so what are they doing [20:03] first of all they're pretending like they've never heard of the guy donald who i'm sorry and then of [20:20] course they're also doing what they always do we're just running all kinds of scary ads to make [20:26] you think democrats are radicals and communists and that the woke police will arrest you and force [20:32] feed you tofu or you know we're not gonna fall for that they run that same okey-doke every every election [20:46] and we're not it's tired tired we're clear about the choice in this election houston is [20:56] a guy who has shared already mentioned voted not once not twice voted 14 times to support the iran [21:05] war that's helping drive up gas prices here in ohio 14 times don't vote three times to block folks [21:18] from reining in the tariffs that have been driving up costs voted to kick hundreds of thousands of [21:25] ohioans off medicaid and raise health care costs and by the way this is the same guy who has [21:33] lieutenant governor pushed so hard for data centers he's been called a data center's best friend now [21:40] i i don't know if that's a title i'd want but that's it you know who hasn't been called that [21:48] sherrod brown if there is one thing we all know about sherrod brown and i've known him for two decades [22:10] is that he is not looking out for the high and mighty he's not working on behalf of people living high on [22:19] the hall he's looking out for folks who are doing an honest day's work and are still having trouble [22:25] getting by and that's who he is that's who he's always been and and by the way you you you can tell [22:36] by how he's dressed i mean this is not a guy who enriched himself cozy enough to corporations [22:46] he still is wearing the same suit he was in when i met him 20 years ago he got a haircut for this rally [23:06] but you don't know he's too cheap to get a haircut more than i don't know once every couple months [23:14] he's got this quarter zip all kind of told him you know what we got to spruce you up a little bit [23:22] is not somebody pretending to look out for working folks he has always been there for you even when [23:35] it's hard even when he might lose an election even when he knows folks are going to spend millions of [23:44] dollars against them he's always challenging the status quo always taking on the system always [23:51] fighting for you and that's what he'll do in the united states senate he'll ban members of congress [23:58] from trading stocks ban them for life from lobbying after they leave he'll put a cap on how much utility [24:06] companies can raise rates and when it comes to data centers he'll make sure corporations and not ohioans [24:13] are paying the full cost of their energy needs he'll fight to make sure decisions about data [24:20] centers are made not in secret deals but out in the open by you in ohio communities and he'll build [24:27] on the great work we did because he was there every step of the way passing the affordable care act [24:32] and he's going to make it illegal for drug companies to charge americans more than what [24:37] they charge in other countries and taking on insurance companies who are denying ohioans care [24:47] and protecting health care for hundreds of thousands of ohioans that's who sherrod is [24:53] so if you want more costs vote for change vote for sherrod you want to end the war and get gas [25:03] prices under control vote for change and vote for sherrod you want to stop corruption and gripping [25:09] vote for change vote for sherrod brown and then you've got a governor's race here talk about that now [25:33] there's one political observer who was recently asked whether vivek uh ramaswarmi wants to be a good [25:40] governor or some kind of political celebrity and the political observer said i don't know [25:46] i assume he wants to be both this wasn't some democratic pundit who said this it was republican [25:53] governor mike dewan that's on supporters no it's all about what's in it for him we all know that guy [26:05] you know who's just like thirsty just wants to get attention no matter what willing to do anything [26:12] and and in recent days we've seen there is no line he will not cross no low he will not sink to [26:21] to try to get in the limelight i mean think about this latest ad he ran do not boo i want i i want us [26:29] to just focus on this wait wait there's a decency that we should expect out of our public officials [26:49] and i don't know what's happened where the standards of behavior have gotten so low [26:55] that somebody can run an ad like that there's something inside you where you just say you know [27:04] no office is worth stooping that low because you know what character matters amy has spoken movingly [27:17] about her painful childhood and all she's experienced and abuse neglect and homelessness and she's never [27:24] forgotten the people who looked out for her who refused to look the other way when she needed a helping [27:32] hand and that's why she dedicated her life and her career for looking out for ohioans [27:41] looking out for people in need looking out for people who maybe didn't get a fair shot that's [27:49] what she did when mike dewine recruited her to join his cabinet and lead ohio's health department and [27:57] that's what she's going to do as governor she'll cut taxes for as many as 775 000 ohio families to lower [28:12] costs and put money in your pockets and lift people out of poverty she understands child care shouldn't bust [28:20] the family budget so she'll make child care more affordable forgive medical debt because no one [28:27] should go broke because they need a medical procedure and on day one as governor she will [28:34] sign anti-corruption executive orders to make sure ohio's government is working for ohioans and not [28:40] special interests amy action is not in this to be some kind of political celebrity she's in it for you [29:01] look these are unsettling times these are unsettling times the economy is changing fast ai is here and [29:14] we need to make sure it benefits everyone not just a few billionaires we need to revamp our education for [29:23] the new era that ai is ushering in we're facing a housing shortage and we need to build millions of [29:30] homes we need to rein in the cost of child care so young families can afford it we need to make sure no [29:38] one has to worry about high health care premiums i get the frustration i get the anger and the cynicism [29:46] because the system is not working partly because of gerrymandering partly because rich and powerful [29:56] folks are able to buy and sell elections like never before pouring the kind of money we've never seen [30:02] partly because we've got a republican party that used to stand for smaller government and now seems to stand [30:12] for corrupt government or inept government or no government and and partly because this is also [30:21] true too often even among well-intentioned folks including democrats there are times when we get so [30:29] caught up in process and bureaucracy that we don't deliver the goods fast enough to make a real difference [30:36] in people's lives and people get frustrated they don't see enough change out there and that's the reason [30:44] we need serious people in washington and in state capitals these are serious times and and and what [30:58] is striking about this moment is just how unserious the people in charge are right now people who are more [31:10] interested in performance and flexing and texting and putting people down instead of lifting them up and [31:21] what all that means is that when you see somebody like sure when you see somebody like amy somebody [31:30] who genuinely cares about people somebody who has a strong track record and is offering real solutions [31:38] somebody who isn't in it to enrich themselves or because they want the limelight but because they want [31:45] to serve then you've got to realize how precious that is and we've got to deliver for them we've got to [31:56] make sure we elect them as united states senator and as governor because because erud and shamey understand [32:11] this is election is not about them it's about you it's about us and there's there's one other thing [32:18] they understand they understand that what ails us right now what is throwing our country so out of kilter [32:26] it's not just about prices it's not just about economics those things are really important but it's also about values [32:33] there there's a moral component to the choices we face right now we are not going to fix the economic [32:45] system or the political system that's broken we're not going to unrig our economy so long as we've got a [32:51] culture where anything goes and where people in the highest offices in the land think it's okay to lie [32:57] and cheat and bully and where money is the only measure of our work and that's part of what's going on right [33:08] now we have lost touch with those things that really matter in life and for our families and [33:21] helping our neighbors and looking after our children and and and laughing with them and [33:27] hugging them and keeping our word and having integrity and treating other people with respect [33:34] just basic stuff stuff that that used to be wasn't democratic or it wasn't republican it was american [33:45] it was human it was how we treat each other just basic decency that's what we are missing in our public [34:07] discourse just basic decency we we need to remember the words of a 25 year old preacher who gave a sermon [34:20] in 1954 where he said if we are to go forward today we've got to go back and rediscover some mighty precious [34:31] values that we've left behind that was martin luther king jr at 25 years old he said we haven't learned [34:40] how to be just we haven't learned how to be honest and kind and true and loving and that is the basis [34:48] of our problem the real problem he said is that through through our scientific jesus genius we have made [35:05] a world of neighborhood but through our moral and our spiritual genius we failed to make it a brotherhood [35:12] in ohio what was true then is true today yes we need to lower costs we need to put money in people's [35:20] pockets yes we need to end this war and the corruption in washington but we don't we don't do any of those [35:27] things if we don't fix our moral compass as a nation if we don't return to some of those old-fashioned [35:34] virtues if our fundamental attitude to each other is to try and hurt other people so they don't hurt us [35:44] first if we're we're driven by fear instead of by hope if we think it's okay to snatch children from [35:50] parents or or cut programs for the aged or the infirm so the powerful can get whatever they want [35:56] we will continue to fester in anger and division and i don't know about you but i'm tired of being angry [36:05] and i'm tired of being divided i wanna i wanna i'm gonna reach out and shake my neighbor's hand i [36:14] want to get to work doing something for somebody else we didn't get into this moment overnight we [36:24] won't get out of it overnight and none of us should pretend that any single person in any single office [36:33] is somehow going to save the day for us and that the rest of us can just go back to acting the same [36:38] way we're gonna have to all make some changes but ohio here's what i know this election can be a [36:47] start this election can be an inflection point this election can be a course correction in america's [36:54] long journey toward a more perfect union because if we're willing to turn out in big numbers here in [37:02] ohio and across the country if we're willing to vote for change and vote for democrats up and down the [37:08] ballot then this election might just mark the moment this country began moving in a better direction [37:18] when we leave our worst impulses behind and start aligning our politics with our highest ideals ohio [37:26] you and i have proved before that it is hard to stop a change whose time has come in 10 days [37:36] you have a chance to do it again so i'm asking you are you fired up you ready to go let's make amy [37:46] acting governor let's make sure brown senator let's get on the path to make an america better [37:54] thank you i love you god bless you [37:56] god bless you
