to call this meeting to order the public art advisory committee agenda or public art art in public places sorry first thing on the agenda is pledge of allegiance pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all next item is approval of minutes make a motion to approve a second and a motion in a second all for approval aye aye aye and any conflicts of interest no so first if there's anyone at from the public like to make a comment no one public new business new business uh susan cora's office of community development i'm taking over for lise rafa today so she sends her regrets um hopefully i'll be able to speak knowledgeably on these things although she really has taken the reins so uh art show collaboration with mctv so this is something new um that uh staff is partnering with mctv to launch a new show which we haven't yet named so if anybody comes up with a good name you know if you're sitting back and enjoying a glass of water um perhaps you would think of a few potential names i've come up with a few um nobody has liked them so i'm going to continue to try anyway uh basically what we're doing is we're working with the martin artisans guild and we're going to be interviewing artists um and putting it all on mctv looking at their um space they have space up in the same plaza with stringers uh what else is there oh i never remember the name of that plaza uh renato's is there harbor bay um and that's where their studio and event space is and it's really neat plus they sell things as well and they have art shows there so we're going to showcase the work of the artists and talk about the creative process and so this kind of works into our promotion of art in public places it will help promote martin artisans guild and i think be a little bit of arts education which is something that we've been wanting to do since the beginning so it kind of helps with all of those things so that's an update uh we'll let you know when i think the first three artists have been chosen so it could be this week that the interviews happen and uh we'll let you know when you'll be able to see those on county television channel which i know you all watch all the time okay do we have any idea how much many people watch mctv i'm sure it's in the hundreds of thousands right now i mean i watch it not that we have hundreds of thousands of people in this county but when i have a lot of water i watch it a lot okay okay moving right along okay old business so this is mostly all of what we've been working on updates on all of those things so uh hope sound public library this is going really really well it's very exciting they are finishing their internal renovation so they'll be getting ready to start the external renovation which will include building the gazebo somewhat like the one in old palm city at the cummings library and they are going to put out there a couple of book benches and we've looked at those book benches so they've chosen the book bench that they would like to have and we went out and sourced them and they were so expensive that we thought well how else can we get this done so we went to a local company right here in martin county in stewart and um they're called printera and they are a 3d printing company and i'm sure you've seen on the news or read somewhere that 3d printing now can print houses so we went to them uh as a matter of fact i know that that gentleman justin who's the ceo he came here once to talk with us so we've known about him and like kept in touch with him about the projects that he's doing so elise had a great idea why don't we go see if justin can print us a bench and in fact they can so this is the kind of thing that they're looking to do it is a few thousand dollars per bench less so far estimate wise we are talking with the library folks just to see if this works for them as well so this is not a done deal but we just wanted to let you know that we are working with a local company which i love and that we're also being as creative as possible in terms of pricing so what would happen is that this would obviously be painted the great thing about these guys is that the wood is this really high quality synthetic um we can paint it whatever color we like it doesn't even require annual maintenance uh and it is extremely sturdy i mean these things probably weigh hundreds and hundreds of pounds right yeah so this would all be would all work really nicely and then the library was thinking of putting an engrave right here and maybe that's the name of a book or in honor of somebody or something like that they would like to engrave the tops like the the spine of the book so i think that'll look really great so we're working with them um and making some headway and are these located outside they are going to be outside yeah so if they sit on them it's not going to burn your legs or anything like the materials pretty okay yeah it's that it's that synthetic wood so it's probably better than a wood bench with metal i would think yeah yeah and they look kind of comfy too i mean considering they're made out of cemented wood okay next we have port slander mooringfield upland facility just wanted to let you know along with the port along with the hope sound public library we've looked at both of those rfps they will both go out right after january 1st because then that gives us the time to um put them out for 45 days have artists respond give us time then to choose so we'd probably need to have selection committees for both and elise did give us the possibility for the selection committee so for example this is the kind of thing that we'd like to do for our selection committees for probably both projects just wanted to show it to you and get your input on this this is really the same way that we did it when we did the library in palm city these were the folks that we had on the selection committee makes sense yeah so nancy you can see you're on there so we'd need a representative from your organization and then the you know parks obviously because it's going to be in a park so for both this would be the same lineup so if everybody here is okay with that um if you have any other suggestions please let us know again those both of those will go out uh the first of the year so both of those projects should be done in 2025 that'd be cool so how do you select the uh the community representative so it would be one from the neighborhood advisory committee and then somebody else from the community thank you so for example in salerno and i'm just throwing this out chandler would be a great option because he's already involved in the arts so he gets that piece of it plus he's been on was on the nac for years and he's kind of the perfect choice that's that's who i was thinking yeah yeah chandler i hope you're watching this because you're tossing your name around drinking water i didn't want to put it out there susan put it out there um okay i'll start turning and twisting that arm there you go you might just want to mention what a great project it's going to be and you know how much we need him that kind of stuff um what did we have next palm city place nature signage um we're still awaiting the quotes for a 6 18 by 24 inch aluminum signs so that has not moved along too much uh but we have moved along quite well with the utility box wrapping so elise and i had a little field trip and we thought we would look at some of the cra areas and the surrounding areas of those um of ryo jensen and golden gate because they seem like they are excellent places for art that doesn't have anything really going on right now no no art projects per se so is it this one yeah so um um elise put together what we saw um and and i'm going to show you pictures of them and it's really interesting because i didn't realize that they're so random they're not the same size they're not the same material they're not the same colors it's kind of crazy so jensen you can see and and this is just what we saw it doesn't mean that every single one of these locations would be a location we'd use i think there's 23 total which would be really fun to do if we could so here's one good size really nice viewing be able to see it intersection of skyline and jensen beach boulevard right over here so the other one was like a matte this one is like a glossy finish which is sort of interesting uh intersection of indian river drive and jensen beach boulevard so right here and you can see the parking lot here and then here's the um aviation building jensen beach boulevard so that's a great location um and then we had jensen beach tech center and the causeway right over here also a good location plenty of people to see it out in the open riku and pineapple where is it back here probably not as great a location but it would get a lot of view because there's people walking there as well as driving indian river and the environmental studies right here white why we don't know this little guy right over here in front of four fish marina might be too short i don't know maybe not enough there's not enough of it children's museum probably a great spot there's actually two of them some of them that we looked at i'm sure we can't touch because they're fp and l things that are look like they could be electrified somehow so i'm not sure that might be one of those there were a few that had you know writing on it with lots of exclamation points and we figured that we need to stay away from those um the tuckahoe mansion had a little one right here so in that same area with all of the other stuff um in going into rio so dixie highway rio civic center a little bit hidden and then we had these little guys over here not quite sure if that really would work although you probably could get an artist that could do something creative with the two of them you know making them into something i don't know they i wouldn't be surprised if they end up getting moved when that development goes in because that's the property we probably need to stay away from dixie highway yeah you know yeah uh sewell's point and a1a so we came out here and here is this nice big one right there great spot st lucy and clayton so here we are going into golden gate dixie and jefferson this is also golden gate that's a great spot as well fairmont and the utility station so this is would be kind of a cool spot too because the trail would be here as well so here's the utility station the trail is over there so this would be over here so this is a nice spot and the really the only other place in golden gate would be this guy right here which might be a good spot as well um because the golden gate building is right here oh i thought that maybe was one on indian yeah and indian so we were we were anxious to consider golden gate and i i was bummed they didn't have as many as we had hoped because they really could use something going on and then we continued and here's a nice big one on dixie and aviation dixie and airport monterey and southeast palm southeast palm beach road and i think that was it so those are the 23 and we haven't talked much about yet much about um what we'd like to see there the price right now is about estimate 400 each location that includes labor materials and installation uh it does not well she says it includes labor for those things i don't think it would include the uh price for the call so do we do a call for one artist or do we get 23 that might be really fun but i'm gonna let elise look into how that would work and it's so funny and this is just an age thing i i'm completely dating myself telling you this so she says to me well gee if we get 23 artists that would be great we could show the work of 23 we'd have you know and i said oh i go you really want to work with 23 people on each one of the i said that's going to be administratively that's a lot of work she goes well they're digital i said oh right of course they are so she didn't seem to think that was a problem immediately in my head i'm like no but um so she'll bring back to you uh some additional ideas for that so think about it uh see if you guys have any specific input you'd like to give us on that it's a really nice project so we want to think about artists we want to think about what do we want to see do we want to just see kind of fun stuff out there stuff that has to do with that particular area i don't know um will it have a theme will it not and also think about the funding for this as well in november we'll come back to you with your funds for the next year because we'll be getting re-up again in october so in november we'll bring you back the budget for everything capital projects and maintenance and we we can probably make a better decision at that time we'll also be bringing you arts fest info at the next meeting so don't miss it comment yes so the stainless steel ones are at traffic lights and they do change from one to the other as far as size i saw some transformers in there and some other uh what are you trying to say rex fpnl i think you need don't know what a utility box lure i think that's one i think you need to find out which ones you can actually do something with yeah before yes we will take 23 people to 23 no no that's that's that's involved in the plan much appreciated yes um because i know there's going to be probably half of them that we can't use so we just thought well let's just get everything that we can see in those three places and then we'll figure out you know what we can really use i'm sure at least is going to learn a lot about those particular different types of boxes and what we can do and what we can't and thank you for that because i know you have some experience already working with that any of the traffic boxes traffic like boxes is not a problem i don't know about the others okay okay well i will let her know that so we'll so will this be expanded once we you know see how this goes and then and then i was curious when the when they came in and did a lot of work for the bright line there's a lot of large boxes if you notice along i don't know i don't know they're so large and i know eyesores i know and i don't know if we can use those okay if they'll let us use those we did have that same question though because we saw a lot of those would you really right you could really put something nice on those yeah okay that could be fun but they there were some of the ones that had lots of writing on them so we were kind of like oh i know the ones over near off a1a and uh salerno i don't think they had much writing on it but i do know the ones near the fairgrounds a lot of writing on there yeah but yeah okay and they are huge yeah thank you and i think that that takes care of our updates did i hit all of the i did okay um that's all we have today if you have any questions i'll we'll be happily trying to answer them okay public one more chance come on nance you can't come for nothing right say something um nancy turrell executive director of martin arts um what do i have to say today these are all great projects you know we will help distribute the calls to artists you know when the show goes live because many of the martin artisan guilds are also members of martin arts so we will do everything we can to you know push that information out and have people's eyes on the work that's being done not just you know yeah and and it's good to note that martin arts has a connection to getting those calls out to a larger audience that we can utilize for a very small cost um so that'll be totally helpful when we send out our calls yeah and your membership in the florida association of public art administrators that really helps that helps as well yeah yeah um and you know we are looking at going along the same line as we did last year with chalk art but opening it up to the public just as sort of an advance on what we're thinking about for the arts fest and do actually you know a member of the public could recruit a team of three or four people and get a square of art or square of sidewalk and be able to um create on that um we did have a 25 000 grant from the state of florida um being that that money was completely eliminated from the state budget this year for our all for all arts projects across the entire state of florida um you know we're not able to do quite as much as we can because of course everything takes money but um but we are very interested in keeping that sort of theme of the chalk art and in hands-on involvement and engagement i think it's good um yeah yeah and we can certainly help to publicize um any of these projects and all that kind of stuff especially utility boxes it might be fun to promote getting people involved in that yeah um part is that we can utilize the cra's but we are countywide so we don't have to stay just within those boundaries which is really nice right i sent elise some pictures this morning not knowing that she was not going to be here today um saw a really really cool art installation they have an art walk um all around bentonville arkansas around the crystal bridges museum of art and they have this pond and there's all these silver balls in the pond and you think they're just sitting there and then the wind blows and then they all start to move in the pond it was really it was really fun ted showed us that did he show you that one yeah um and we are continuing on our path working with susan's department and all the neighborhood advisory committees thank you to all of you because you all represent one or the other um to help us we have i think i heard today we have about 60 or so surveys completed and we have i think about half the nacs to go so appreciate your partnership and support on helping us find out from the community what they're thinking is missing lacking or what's preventing them from engaging in the arts whether it's music drama visual arts or whatever so thank you all right any questions for nancy that was very simple very good thank you thanks ma'am any other comments from the members staff no comments and i'd like to adjourn this meeting thank you thank you all jamie we got you out in time
