I'm going to start off with Friends of the Library, and I would like to invite up Allison Grubbs and Karen Smith, President of the Broward County Friends of the Library. Good morning. It's always one of my favorite proclamations of the year. I know that sounds biased because I'm a librarian, but I know. Shocking. We have over 35 Friends groups, and I don't know how many are here, but whoever's here, come on up. These are the heart and soul of every library in this county, and they make all the difference in how the library is run. And they've also been very fundamental to community, to actually bringing people together, especially after COVID. This is one of the places where people are coming back together. Book clubs, movie clubs, all kind of things. And I just want to thank you guys all for all you're doing for each and every library in our county. So with that, let me read the proclamation. Whereas the Friends of the Broward County Library Incorporated, an umbrella organization bringing together leaders of local Friends chapters from each branch and regional library, is committed to supporting lifelong learning and the benefits and opportunities libraries provide. And whereas they work to increase awareness of the many ways the library connects with the community, providing not just informational resources, but research and technology assistance, readers' advisories, job searches, and information utilization. And whereas the Friends understand the critical importance of well-funded libraries and advocate to ensure that our library gets the resources it needs to provide a wide variety of services to all ages. And whereas the Friends give many volunteer hours to enhance and expand the services and resources libraries can provide to our community. And whereas the work of the Friends highlights on an ongoing basis the fact that our library is a cornerstone of the community, providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of lifelong learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present. And whereas the Friends of the Broward County Library's gift of time and commitment provides a positive example of civic engagement that benefits the community, now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, that the Board hereby designates October 20th to October 24th, 2025, as the Friends of the Broward County Library Week, and urges all Broward County residents to extend thanks and appreciation to them for all they do to make our libraries and communities a much better place, signed by myself, and I hope everybody will join, will go out and join a Friends group today if you have a chance. So, the great We Care City of Lauderdale Lakes wants to ensure that our roads, our infrastructure, our safety, our businesses are there to serve you. And Senator Geller. Today, I believe we have only Ramola Matwani, Indian community leader, Sanjay Gupta, the IRCC Diwali co-chair and IRCC past president. Okay. And Soham Ives, Vyas, sorry, IRCC board member. The nation of India is the largest in the world by population, so it's fitting that they also are the largest Asian population in Broward County. For those of you that are not familiar with the Diwali Festival, I attend every year, but I strongly recommend it. It's a strong celebration of Indian culture in South Florida. This year, however, it will be at a different location. It has always been at the convention center. And this year, as they have put in extremely small type that nobody can actually read, it's going to be at Rick Case Arena at Nova Southeastern University. And it's going to be Saturday, November 8th from noon to 10 p.m. I normally come around 5 or 6 p.m. When you see the Indian dancing going on, particularly by the children, it is a wonderful, wonderful, heartwarming experience seeing culture passed on from parent to child. And I would strongly recommend that other county commissioners attend this. I would now like to read the proclamation. Diwali, known as India's biggest and most important holiday, is a festival of lights that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and the human ability to overcome adversity. And whereas the IRCC, Indian Regional Cultural Center, will be hosting the 13th annual Diwali Festival of Lights, again, previously at the Broward Convention Center, but this year at Rick Case Arena, with more than 1,000 performers and 60 vendors in place to welcome residents and visitors. And whereas the Diwali Festival of Lights offers a vibrant, colorful, and immersive cultural experience that showcases the rich Indian heritage through dance, music, art, and exquisite cuisine, though candidly, it's generally too spicy for me. And whereas this event features captivating performances ranging from Bollywood to traditional folk dances with high school and intercollegiate dance competitions, spotlighting local talent. I prefer to see the really small kids. They just look so cute trying to do this. And whereas visitors can savor a diverse array of authentic Indian cuisine prepared by skilled chefs and explore numerous vendor booths showcasing Indian clothing, jewelry, and accessories. And whereas the Diwali Festival of Lights serves as a platform for cultural exchange, fostering understanding and appreciation of Indian traditions. Now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners that the board hereby designates November 8, 2025, as Diwali Festival of Lights Appreciation Day in Broward County, Florida, with special recognition to the IRCC for their dedication to promoting Indian culture and heritage in our community. As we encourage all residents and visitors to participate in this extraordinary celebration of life, unity, and culture. And I will again say between we have so many physicians, hoteliers, accountants, other professionals from the Indian community here in Broward. It's always a pleasure to be here. And Commissioner Steve Geller, Mayor, all of you, thank you for this beautiful proclamation to celebrate our holiday of a new year, like we celebrate Christmas, Diwali, a festival of lights, a festival that celebrates victory of good over evil. And it also, those lights, guide us, lead us to the love, peace, and unity, not just in our community, but beyond. And also to what our Commissioner mentioned about a lot of organizations in our community in Broward County. It's amazing to see how many dance and academies are in our county. And this is not, the doors are open for every community to be part of it. Our temple is open to every community for part of it. So a lot of spiritual growth, yogas, kids, and like you said, we have Balvihar classes. So that is for the kids that it's a special program and now it's being even offered online and everything is available that really creates the foundation in our children of being grounded, not just of spirituality, but also of the community service. A community service that they are taught from their childhood. And many of our communities are so integrated in our community, serving in many different ways. Of course, doctors are there. There are free camps being offered, even free checkup at the temples. So, and everything, what I like most and the best about it is that it's open to everyone. Hinduism is not a religion. This is a very special appreciation for the community and especially for the IRCC, which is known as Indian Regional Cultural Center. This IRCC is founded in 1978, since then, doing the culture activity. Diwali is the main event, which is going to happen on Rickcase Arena this time. We have been doing on the convention center. And we are getting very overwhelming response. So, about, we have 90 performances. 90 performance means you are talking, like, about 10 hours program. And we can start from the age four until no definite age. There are a lot of competitions and all that. And about 1,200 performers are performing on the stage this time. In addition to the, about the clothing, hina, and, you know, costume jewelry, a couple of things there. And really, really appreciated that. And it's a diversity. Again, from Olaji and commissioner, Steve Geller said, that it's open to everyone. It's not a religious, it's a regional performance, a regional program that everybody is very welcome. We truly appreciate if you can make it happen on normal dates to join the Diwali festival at Rickcase Arena. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. like a family reunion in here even in the audience i saw people i haven't seen in years so this is fantastic to be back um it's always an honor to be here with my friends and my colleagues to be back home tallahassee's a crazy place right now but we were able to obtain three hundred thousand dollars in appropriations for the broward county behavioral health coalition and i believe that this will strengthen our vital programs and support residents facing mental health challenges and help families to gain stability and um to experience the compassionate services and the hope that our broward county agencies give them and so i wanted to also take a moment because my colleague representative woodson could not be here today and as you know um this doesn't happen without somebody on the senate and somebody on the house and so we'd like to thank her today as well for her efforts um last session we passed lots of laws um that directly impact the daily life from sales tax holidays uh to ease the cost of living to new protections for property owners and traffic safety measures to curb speeding so do not go over 100 miles an hour on the expressway bogan yes okay and um as always have uh you dean on speed dial uh or geller um last session um we also talked about projects that we felt would um represent an investment in our shared future um creating jobs improving public safety and ensuring that every resident has access to the resources that they need to thrive your broward county um representatives and lobbyists did a fantastic job of coming up to tallahassee to make sure that your voices were heard um i think that in a time now where uh local governments have been under attack and home rule is something that people think is expendable um you need good representation up in tallahassee to support your needs here locally uh i am a hundred percent home rule supportive you know that and i will continue to do that on your behalf as we look ahead to 2026 um i think the biggest issues that we have right now is the cost of property insurance as well as um the property tax discussion and so um we have been working very hard to make sure that on our side um our democratic colleagues have joined together to propose property insurance um decreasing and um through several bills one of them is my bill sb 30 where we are trying to cap property insurance increases at no more than 10 percent per year and also have a separate office or agency where people who are having absorbent increases can go and seek help and have someone listen to their claim and also go back and work with the office of insurance regulation to help to get them um more low low affordable low cost insurance and so um that's just one of many proposals that we have um brought forth as a caucus and um if you have other questions or you have anything that you know you want me to work on this session um now is the time and uh i have had the pleasure of meeting with your legislative and lobbying team already and so i'm just here today to give you the money all right so all right is it a big old check is a big old check all right should we go on down there let's go on down there and we won't know until they hear the item state law rights i think you all know requires some type of meeting where the elected officials make their position known that did not happen in this case it's unfortunate all of these things should bubble up from the local government through the county to the state that didn't happen here so we're asking you to please defer the item give my city a chance not the first time you all have seen it uh and the planning council in fact uh unanimously recommended it to approval to you all and you all said it and had the transmittal hearing in august uh what's happened since then uh florida fish and wildlife dep fdot and florida commerce all came back with either no comments no issues no concerns and this should be a public hearing uh authorization to set a public hearing for november 13th the mayor mentioned to me in advance of the meeting that he was going to request that this i guess that the public hearing be deferred until uh january and i'm not exactly sure miss shallow for uh i've worked with her before in the long ago and uh i'm not sure whether she's she's not property properly characterizing the process and the requirement and and i think she's been advised that this process did not require a public hearing at the city commission level and she's correct it there hasn't been one yet the site plan and the plat are scheduled uh are going to be proceeding at the city the city has however made a determination to discuss this item on their next agenda which is october 28th next tuesday so i don't even see a need to defer this beyond november 13th which is what the action today would have been since you will then have the input from the city commission before you all consider adoption but uh thank you all very much for your um i represent the dania beach vervet project uh it's run by dr missy williams who has a vervet monkey sanctuary um about a quarter amount from the proposed project in this esl property um she is of course concerned about the impact that the development would have on her sanctuary and also just in general on the esl property itself um so i appreciate uh that this item is being pulled from the agenda today um i do agree with with mr mayor's thoughts that it be uh pushed off till january so we can get a full understanding of what the city of dania beach's position is on this very important issue uh to my client i think to a lot of a lot of other people i did have a brief conversation with mr stacker um i guess we might have a little bit of disagreement on what the process ought to be uh with the city of of dania beach before it comes back before the board as to whether a public meeting is required or not but mr stacker mentioned that there is going to be some sort of public meeting to discuss it on october 28th so again i appreciate the fact that it's been pulled thank you very much and i'll be representing uh dr missy williams throughout this process thank you thank you very i think this caught him a little bit by surprise because there is as he said a uh vervet monkey sanctuary real nearby um it is right in the mangroves it's taking you know so i think there's some considerations our own just so we know our own staff said this due to concerns regarding sea level rise stormwater management and the protection of natural resources including wetlands and mangroves consistent with self consistent with several broward county land use policies planning council staff is unable to support the proposed amendment to remove approximately 3.5 acres of the overall 21 acre esl site 97 map label 136 from the natural resource map series um you know i think it came to us and there were there there had been a letter from the city manager saying to go through the process not necessarily in support but to go through the process but i know those commissioners have been um just swamped with emails as have i just so you know um all of all asking for to take a really good look at this and and so i i'm going to need to pass this gala to you so i can make a motion to defer okay well i get to us i'll make a motion to defer this to january first to the first meeting in january just um to be clear is it to move this item entirely to the january meeting yes so that will be the public hearing meeting to deferred yes to the to the first to the first to the to do with the process and i think that we need to if we're going to delay this then we we also need to look at the process as well because you can explain it better i wrote all my notes but i'll leave it up to you good morning thank you barbara blake boy from the barbara county planning council staff um and some of you are aware of this um i know commissioner fisher is as he sits on the planning council um there's certainly a conflict in um how the natural resource map series process is working with the licensing and permitting process um you know that's uh required as part of the uh the county review and um what we've come to realize um with these couple of applications we've had this last several months is that county staff is placed this place in a very conflicting position they're required to take the licensing and permitting applications and then if it's coming through this natural resource map series process they're also commenting as environmental professionals um on that so one of the things that we've been talking about for about uh eight or 12 months at the planning council is streamlining the process because it also creates this natural resource map series process is creating something where someone may just assume that oh if it's not removed from the map then they're not permitted to go through licensing permitting and that's not in case that that's not the fact so um what the planning council has proposed is a text amendment to the county plan that would make this natural resource map series for the environmentally sensitive lands map like the wetlands map process where these applicants go through licensing and permitting and we receive a a table every other year from licensing permitting to let us know what's been deleted or added to the map series um so is that so we're going to be um processing a text amendment and you'll see that also um in late winter great thank you barbara uh mr barbara i said that i was briefed on that i thought that's already underway right yes yes absolutely so it's going to go to the planning council in december and then you would see it either in january or february for the transmittal to the state of florida review agencies and it will not be more restrictive or burdensome okay commissioner eugene did you have okay vice mayor and i just concur with uh senator geller that if this has to do with someone's district and they request a deferral uh we always have kind of you know go by such requests and so i'll support that and okay any other questions all those in favor aye any opposed that passes unanimously okay with that we'll go to item 27 senator geller thank you um i'm hoping somebody can explain this to me a little better and 27 and 28 right now what our process is is um we have the one water matters day each year that the county is doing um i'm trying to fully understand what changes are being uh proposed here i know that that normally other because you know i chaired the water board for for many years um and we've done a lot with the the tree giveaways my understanding is i'm glad to see lenny coming up is normally what we do is we will provide trees other than during water matters day we will provide trees but only trees this seems to be going beyond that um and i just would like a clearer understanding i'm not necessarily opposed to 27 or 28 i want to know exactly what it is that they're doing mr mayor yes thank you mr vialpando thank you uh mayor members of the board so essentially um we've had a fairly sizable fund balance in the tree preservation trust fund of nearly a million dollars when we undertook some of these amendments and one of the issues that we uncovered is that we were only covering to your point trees and if you look at something like water matters day the total cost of an event like that is about sixty thousand dollars of which 35 000 is the trees the additional expenses i mean there's 125 volunteers at that event 4 000 attendees so that's a big event our signature event but we weren't having other people approach us about tree giveaways because if we only pay for trees then they would have to come up with the costs for security and volunteers and coordination and you say they who were they whoever it would be that would apply to the fund to get the money to buy the trees for the tree giveaway so is this only cities it's basically any non-profits and we did actually with bold justice we've done several events and they actually um you know covered those costs they held it at a church they helped do the you know the volunteers and all that in this case um commissioner davis was uh gracious enough to ask to host a tree event and in the process of hosting that event it became immediately apparent why people are not approaching us for funds just for the trees for a tree giveaway because logistically there's just a lot of incidental expenses so we looked at revising the code to provide in this case up to five thousand dollars for security and you know the logistics of signage and uh promoting and i'll just give you an example we just held an event last weekend with 25 volunteers we had 456 attendees we gave away almost 15 000 worth of trees and there were some additional expenses that you know were we managed to work it out but we realized that a we would need those monies if we were going to do more giveaways of that type and b perhaps if we had a mechanism to provide up to five thousand dollars for these tree giveaways for those expenses more groups like bold justice i'm not sure they're going to do them again right they did the three i would love for them to do more um but this would just provide an ability for us to reimburse those expenses and in hopes of having more people take advantage of these funds because they had been sitting unused and and it's either this or plant trees on public land essentially and you know that that's becoming less and less available and so the funds had been sitting and we looked at it like an opportunity to get more trees out and again because of this we had 456 trees hopefully be planted that would otherwise not have been planted i was going to thank you lenny um i was also going to don't go yeah don't go thank you i was also going to share um that this is also an ability to to work with municipalities in the past you know we've done um tree giveaways where a city has asked us to participate and give funds from the tree preservation trust fund um for for the cost of the trees um and and it's also a way for cities municipalities to have some skin in the game too to help in those um activities and those events but this is something that we could do throughout the county in different um districts as well so mr viopondo i i i am far less concerned if a city asks for it if a county commissioner asks for it i'm more concerned if non-profits are asking for something and you know they give away three trees but you know say well great we've got you know five thousand dollars or whatever it is for our you know party that we're going to have that we might give away three trees at so i you know i just want to make sure that if you do something here that there's sufficient safeguards in place again if it's matching with the cities or if the county commissioner asks i have far less issue i'm concerned about non-profits or other groups that may not actually be giving trees or give a handful but use this just as an excuse to get county dollars for their hosting a function so i'd be interested in seeing what sort of safeguards you have in place to prevent that and if we pass this which i assume we will please you know make sure that there are safeguards absolutely yes sir others um i also are you talking about 27 and 28 were you talking about both together yeah but i mean i've been i think i think my questions have been answered okay any other questions um i i might i had some concerns as well on that um because i do think um we have we do have quite a bit of money in there but i can tell by the ratio that's being used there the trees don't cost that much but that's a that's a you know using 25 of the money on stuff other than the trees um i think it's important to work with the cities and here's why i have done it an enormous amount of tree plantings you know throughout hollywood and a bunch of places and one of the things you need is you need the backup and you need the the um coordination with the cities because somebody's got to water somebody's got to come back around and keep taking making sure non-profits don't have that capability as good unless they're going to come in with a hose they don't and what you want to do is make sure that when they're staked upright you they're going to get watered so that you're not wasting your money and so i to that point lenny i think we should be looking at that but the other part of that is i think we should be looking at the resiliency plan because there is a targeted area of where and i think it's you know we've the resilience department lenny maybe you can help me on this through monica um we've we've we've we've targeted the entire county here's where trees need to go to be able to bring down because we understand uh with heat concerns um where there's certain parts of the county that are that have shade and and others don't are almost 15 degrees hotter according to our stats than others that's where we need to be that's where it needs to be going um and and we need to be thinking like that and looking at those cities and saying look here's where can we help you on that and and and getting these trees to them and saying we'll work with you but that's kind of i think that needs to be happening um yeah lenny thoughts on that because to your point and also to senator gellers the way this is written is that it would allow for the department to uh undertake these projects or sponsor these projects if you will and so i i believe that may address your concern as well as yours which is that we would be looking at projects to your point in those areas we would be helping with the selection of the trees ensuring that the event is actually held the trees are actually given away and uh you know accounting for those expenses and ensuring that they're reasonable and that the event is legitimately getting trees in the hands of people that will hopefully plant them and that we would tell them how to do it and you know for example at their last event i believe we had about 25 of our own staff at that event including the people who normally do all the tree education um you know we shepherded everyone through helped them select a tree we made sure that the trees were you know an appropriate variety so this would not apply to just any random group would be entitled to a use these funds or b have those expenses reimbursed it would definitely have to be something that was sponsored by the department or run through the department and you know we run them through the tree preservation trust fund committee and so there would be some uh measure of ensuring that these would go to areas that needed the trees and that they would be uh it would just give us another tool to try to encourage people to take advantage of these funds in order to plant trees okay and i think it and maybe each one of us that are that represent those areas that have those the need for those trees might want to do the outreach to those cities and say look we can provide the trees if you can provide the the backup the watering you know whatever else is needed um and then and then we we're actually are getting making some you know some ground up this mayor as i was saying i'll address after commissioner davis oh um thank you the event um that was held at our county park pineland park in district seven was very well attended well needed and um there were some costs because even though you are in a city city of miramar there are costs for their police they don't budget that you got to pay them uh so that there's traffic that they can mitigate um and so without those funds you don't get that i mean they're not just going to come out and say oh yeah on a saturday i'm going to give you two or three police officers there's a cost involved and so that's where these monies will actually be assisting also the volunteers they take time in a busy schedule they should be able to get a glass of water uh and um i like uh maybe a continental um donut or something so but as it stands right now the trees are just for trees but there's a human side of it there's a municipal costs and so we have to take that into consideration and i'd love to do more i'm sure you all would love to do them um and this also uh brought visibility to a park that many had never even been to didn't even realize the gem that they had in their own cities and so um it was well attended and um the folks that got the trees were so happy for them and there's no doubt that they're going to plant them you can't have too many trees people don't just pick up trees because they you know have nowhere to put them they pick them up because they want them and especially the fruit trees there's one sour sap tree the sour sap trees were flying off the the the the floor because there's municipal municipal municipal my words value in in the sour sap leaf one sour sap you go to the supermarket you can't even afford it if you can plant your own fruit trees mangoes they're expensive so there's that aspect as well um and so we are providing a service and i hope more people take advantage of it okay mr mayor so uh as i was saying commissioner davis um no problems with the cities doing this or where the county's asking i'm just asking lenny just to make sure that before you're giving money to non-profits as the mayor said i think the mayor and iron i would incorporate the mayor's comments into mine that uh you also just make sure that they're actually getting the trees into the hands of people and so i'm i'm expecting that you'll come up with some guidelines for not for cities or when counties are asking but for dealing with the non-profits to make sure that they're legitimate non-profits and have the ability to do this mr mayor commissioner rogers thank you i'm going to take this on another on my personal experience because while you guys were doing the uaz projects and you were the underground water projects throughout borough county throughout your cities and you remove remove the trees for whatever reasons trees were removed the contract that you had with the cities were three years out so no one remembers what that agreement was so you're planting trees in the wrong areas and planting trees that neighbors don't want they weren't asked and i'm just curious we need to take a look at that because i was not aware of these funds because when the county would not assist in replanting they went through so much to try and prove that they didn't they weren't responsible a few of us had to get together and pay to get those plants removed and replaced planting trees in the right places i don't think we're looking at that i think we need to look at that more closely i agree that we need to engage the cities because you have you have to maintain as was stated so you can't leave the city out of it and then when the counties have properties that the landscaping is as old as the building something is wrong especially when you have a fund like this that you need to modify or amend to make sure you can take care of some of those things so we still have trees planted in a wrong place that residents don't want maybe you need to use some of those monies and we can get more sowasap and ackee and stuff on those properties but do they choose the plants that they want do they you guys non-profits are available to choose the plants that they want so so there are um select um trees that are available and that we could um do for each of the tree giveaways that we have um as long as they're appropriate and their staff reviews it and so then there's a set number of each different species i think at the last tree giveaway um lenny you may want to help me on this i think there was like five different um types of of trees that were given out yes so we have a list of uh trees and we also when we do these events we purchase the trees and we make sure they're delivered to the location so it depends on what's available from our vendors and you know what we can procure so that might limit our selection but we do work with them on on choosing some varieties uh you know the fruit trees if you will and then there's some natives as well those tend to be less popular but we do want to try to give away some natives as well but um yeah we make sure that there are appropriate trees and you know they're of a size that people can actually get in their car and you know we can tell them about how to plant them but yes um you know fruit trees are a big part of it and we're happy to give them away and it's usually about five six varieties okay so the person that would like to do this event host this event if they're aware that they would like to do such an event can they submit the names of the trees that they would like is that possible so they they can i guess request whatever they'd like but we would only approve trees that we could source and that were you know let's say not invasive or you know of a problematic nature um so we'd make sure that they were you know quality trees but um generally you know things like citrus and soursop and things like that uh would be allowed yes okay and lenny if you wouldn't mind if you will indulge me can you please also give some of the parameters like there's one per household and all that one per vehicle yeah we we sometimes do one per car which which did we did for this event and we actually had you know 465 attendees i believe sometimes when we do water matters day for example we do two per car so we give away about 4 000 uh you know trees to you know two weeks so about 2 000 people get trees it just depends on the event but it's usually one or two trees per person we allow them to pre-select from the selected list that's provided and i believe we had people lining up like 6 30 in the morning to get these trees so they're definitely um you know something that's in demand and people are there to you know to get a tree and hopefully plant it and and you know nurture it and contribute to our tree canopy funding where do you get most of your funds to have a million dollars you know so it's so it's so it's actually unfortunate where the funds come from they come from fines uh which is when people abuse trees or otherwise destroy them those funds go into the account and then the other uh part of it is if a large project gets built and you know let's say you're building a single family thanks for saying that that's where i wanted you to yeah if if you're building you know a bunch of single family homes and you know maybe there were hundreds of trees and now you can only plant maybe two or three per per lot and so you end up with let's say 100 trees that you can't put on the site then you can pay into this fund and then those trees are used for planting and and providing tree canopy replacement for those trees that were lost as part of that project that's not our preference but that's an option available to the developer the options right now are the funds because no one wants to plant trees or recreational open space and green spaces that is not a priority anymore so your fund will continue to grow right let's diversify we're trying to encourage people to use the funds for of those things are okay uh good morning everyone mike nanamaker deputy director of aviation um we're working on a number of things at north perry airport uh this item is one of them another item is a updated uh safety study a very comprehensive independent safety study we did one back in 2021 uh and we are now uh in the very final stages of drafting a new scope for a new comprehensive safety study to take a look at uh everything that has transpired since the 2021 safety study was completed a review of that and then any additional reviews of how the airport is operating what's transpired since 2021 as far as incidents and accidents and then also looking at our tenants our tenant agreements what enforcement we can do within those agreements what changes we should make and then also looking at potential uh petitioning further of the federal aviation administration for increased enforcement and information sharing so we are almost complete with that uh statement of work and that scope um i don't know if we're bringing that one back um that one's going to be going through purchasing but when it's done you will definitely yeah i think i think all of us would like to see that and also um with regard to the control tower is there is there an issue with fdot on that so um as far as the control tower is concerned there was there was some dollars with fdot that were allocated for it there's a fairly lengthy story about the air traffic control tower it is actually owned by the faa and it is operated and maintained by the faa right now the faa under the reauthorization bill the 2024 reauthorization bill is looking at a pilot program to take on high capacity air traffic control towers north perry is one of those it's one of the busiest in the country to take that back as a federally operated and staffed uh air traffic control tower so north prairie is one of five that are on that pilot list okay unfortunately the government's closed right now so it's not moving but it is a three-year plan that the faa is mandated to complete and take back to congress north perry is on that list okay if you can just keep us in the loop on that absolutely i've i've had a few people ask me about that absolutely okay thank you very much thank you mr notemaker with that we have a motion in a second all those in favor any opposed that passes unanimously okay um i believe that's everything except reports am i right that's it that's it all right we'll start reports uh commissioner davis thank you um it's been quite busy in in the district um i've attended a ribbon cutting for a herbal um establishment that relocated from pembroke road to miramar parkway and was there with um the miramar pembroke pines chamber and members of the commission of miramar of course carnival was a huge success we certainly thank um our partners here at the county for supporting that event we also attended the district my staff and i attended the ribbon cutting for some pickleball courts in the city of hollywood i want to thank commissioner beaterman for inviting me uh to driftwood park for that event and i also did a city of hollywood tour again um mainly of my district which is parts of uh state road 7 um and um all the way through to um 56 and so we we looked at the areas um in terms of uh the johnson street there's a lot of um businesses there in terms of restaurants and there's some work that's needed there in terms of uh pavements and so on so we're looking at um projects there with the city of hollywood what they plan to do with that area and obviously the 441 corridor and all the improvements that are being made and some that do need to be made in that area you spoke about north prairie we had a north prairie familiarization day with members of the commission from city of hollywood pembroke pines and miramar so i'd like to thank the staff at north prairie for indulging us and allowing us to tour the facility and look at their operations there um in addition to the safety study there is going to be obviously a lead study that was requested and folks are looking forward to that the tree drive we just talked about very well attended very successful and most folks are looking forward to the major event that takes place in march by the county next march and as most of you would know that fitzy is taking place beginning tomorrow and we invite everyone to attend it's our 10th annual and it's going to be a stellar event obviously it's free and open to the public and we encourage everyone to come you can still register at fitzyexpo.com and the event takes place from 8 to around 7 30 in the evening i have an upcoming food drive with farm share in the city of pembroke pines that's going to be taking place in um november november 8th i believe and we certainly encourage folks to go to broward farm share dot eventbrite.com to participate in that food distribution it's a food distribution event once again thank you commissioner mckenzie a real brief um in the bmsd that i shared with some of you some vacant but more um land opportunities for affordable housing um all that we did uh coming out of the blocks monica to uh bring attention to brow boulevard 27th avenue 31st and sunrise um is working so there'll be some good opportunities uh coming coming online here soon because of some of the the decisions we made and the things they're doing moving forward i see a lot of interest and a lot of phone calls uh to do development in that area and we'll bring back some of those things i think you closed on a property yesterday uh the wheeler property that's going to um probably mirror the landmark project that we already approved so i want to thank you and your staff for that um yesterday i attended an event with children's service council at one of our parks franklin park community center lights on after school and we especially in the bmsd and some of our regional parks that we control uh do a lot for after school programs and this program yesterday shed a lot of light to me uh on some of the things that the council's doing uh in conjunction with us in our parks and recreation so i thought it was a super event i mean well attended with kids kids are just pouring out of the i mean out of the woodworks there and it was a good event but it brings light to what we're talking about activating a park even with something as simple as a tree giveaway and i've done it for years in the city of fort lauderdale you'd be surprised at the people uh that that want trees so i think we need to do more of them at uh our county parks and any any other part that we can partner with and i think a good one hazel will be central park to do a tree giveaway um just in case you didn't know central park was there um yesterday uh i thought was uh something that was interesting i've been in this town a long time and i'll let you have your thunder uh on this one but uh it was just a great event yesterday uh with the east convention center uh grand opening or ribbon cutting uh to see what is taking place there and how many commissioners ago we to get there i think you guys started in 91 uh uh on this journey and we we completed um completed it and i left uh there uh with uh on the when i started city for a lot of there working with you guys with the bypass i started i left yesterday on the connector so we keep evolving as we see the things that we need to tweak along the way and we tweaked because a bypass is not what we wanted according to our administrator we want to connect it is a connector and i took a nice drive on the connector and that does it for me in terms of my report better that's a better way to say it i like that commissioner fisher thank you mayor and just a couple items too i just want to i know that probably monica's going to speak about this but i just wanted to personally thank trevor fisher our public works director i always call him my cousin because he has the same name as me um his last day is friday and uh he's truly just a gentleman and just a hard worker and just really made a big impact at broward county so trevor i want to thank you so much and wish you all the best uh in your retirement also several commissioners i know senator gullard attended uh george platts retirement uh you know you look back on his career he's 81 years old now and he talked about serving here at this level and the cultural arts and cultural council and and all the projects that he he really was involved in so um i don't know that george is going to back off all the way but but i but i think he's going to back off a lot of what i think and will hopefully uh encourage him to enjoy some more time in north carolina so george congratulations on that i also want to recognize uh the city attorney uh mark berman from the city of pampano beach he served um i served 30 years at that level and he's um he's celebrated his work anniversary i guess it was so mark congratulations on all you've done for the city of pampano and following up with the commissioner mackenzie talked about and i want to thank uh the office of public communication and kim thank you so much for uh you know preparing remarks and and just getting us where we are today and and the press releases and so forth but it really was a a group effort and what commissioner mackenzie was talking about monica i want to compliment you as i walked out and i saw the plaque that had the names of the current commission on there but you also had put there all the other commissioners who have come to the past who worked on that and i thought that was really a class act that you named them as well on the plaque so kudos to you and your entire team and it's just a game changer for us here in brown county um you know the 1.2 million square feet now and the connector road and and the hotel coming on in the plaza it's just you know one of a kind property in my opinion that we can really tout throughout the world really uh and you're going to see folks from out all over the world going to come and enjoy our our facilities here so again just uh just honor to be part of it and in my district uh and and again thanks to residents who got involved uh with this with this uh development and and really you know as i said yesterday sometimes the planners and engineers get in their mind to do certain things but when the residents come what about this what about that and and and kudos to the county that included them and so they had a voice at the end of the day so i thought you're bringing up the residents was very good because they really were were really was involved so other than that uh fitzy and coming up and of course our boat show as well will be our two big events coming up the convention center so right thank you so much mayor okay nothing but class senator rich okay well i i had just ditto on a couple of things um i also wanted to mention trevor i'll be here on friday uh he is just such a a a gentleman and just you know so supportive of things that you need and trying to get things done uh following up on you know maybe you know things that haven't been done exactly right and then he comes in there and kind of manages to pull it together so i i i just uh really wanted to recognize him as well and as far as george platt let me tell you something he wouldn't be where he is without ann i'm gonna tell you that right now that's it that's my comment on there so it was a good party um i do want to mention um uh the um i also want to mention the convention center expansion and congratulations to monica and the team just amazing i have to tell you it's really breathtaking when you walk into that room and saw those lights and the and and the cover we're in the carpet business i'm looking at the carpet and the lights and then to see the view it's it's just amazing um just i i i really agree that probably there's no place else anywhere that has a uh everything put together like that uh in one place it's just really wonderful and i hope that a lot of people you know from our own community come to see it because it is going to create a lot of jobs a big economic development and it's really important so i just uh wanted to mention that i also wanted to mention the um we had the annual broward leaders resilience round table um as we have every year and um it has been the last few years uh co-chaired by um by our mayor uh beam and myself and um uh and of course uh we we invite all the cities and i have to say this is the first year that all 31 of them responded 30 i mean when i think about how far we've come from the few cities that you know would be sitting at the table and this year i mean it was amazing to have you know just all of these representatives and so many people reporting on the projects that they're doing in their own in their own cities and the sim and and the seminoles i was going to get to them too we just have we have the federal agencies we have uh um the south florida water management district it's a whole you know kind of a unified effort uh where everybody comes together but i did want to mention that um and um i have i have to say that it's very we do this in broward county it's very special especially now you know right now where resiliency is not the top priority for the federal government under the current administration and um but you know we know the reality here in our own in our own community that climate change is not abstract it's personal and we see the impact of it from the flooding that we have soaring insurance costs public health rising pressures on affordable housing and and ecosystems so um it's really amazing that we that we do this and i have to say there was only one sad part about it for me because all of a sudden i realized i turned to to beam and i said this is the last year that we're going to be chairing the co-chairing this together and it's i i just really went uh you know it's it's just he's been such a leader in this community on on and he still will continue to be when he's not on the commission he's not going i know but i just this this brought it out to me that success over the several years that i've been involved with it that is really due to a lot of the groundwork that he you know put the blade laid down and and also of course i have to say dr gerardo is just the most amazing human being and all of her staff what what a great job uh they did uh and monica was there as well and but it's just i mean all the staff people were there and participating and it's just a whole unified effort for something that's one of the most important things we can be doing in our county and that is you know looking at the resilience and how people are going to be able to live in this community with this with with a quality of life uh that's um you know that's good uh so anyway thank you for everything vice mayor bogan you know what that said uh senator um he's got a year to go but after that year monica you need to bring this guy in to do continue with the resilience i mean uh anyway i just wanted to also you guys also mentioned about trevor fisher but just as important is the replacement lenny who has been took his place such a superstar i mean he's just i don't know if you guys work much with lenny but he's just phenomenal pardon me but he's not leaving no no no i'm i'm talking about his the replacement lenny and i just wanted to say he's just been a superstar i have nothing else to talk about for sure you dean so i just want to um start i'm going to skip all the different things and events but just i think it's special to mention the convention center and the connector road opening i think it was i think this project is such a winner for broward county all the way around on so many levels and i mean the the publicity that we're getting through kim's office out in in in publicity um the event that they did i just think and and the road getting out of there was such a pleasure to leave oh my god it was great and it's it's just very cool i mean we'll start with fitzy tomorrow it'll be the first one and i think it's fitting that it's kind of a county conference that'll start it off first and then we as was said yesterday we roll right into the boat show so the boat show is coming next week um one of the biggest economic engines that we have in south florida and i think it's going to be a great way to just start right out of the bat um showing off our convention center i think the visit lauderdale and stacy's team is they're going to do an amazing job marketing that they already are i mean when you stand by that window there's very few places in the world that can have a conference that's going to look like that i i don't think there's anywhere that's gonna that's going to compete with that once we get up and running and and we start with that um all right so we can't talk about things outside of here when we're you know because we have sunshine issues so i am going to bring up an item to talk about i'm not going to do it at the next meeting i want to give it a few meetings to kind of percolate a little bit because i am hearing this over and over again and i'm sure if i'm hearing this all of you are hearing this and i want us to be able to talk about it and just the other day as an aside we were at the core construction grand opening congratulations to core construction they just moved their headquarters into broward county doing tons of building all over commissioner fisher was standing right by me we heard the same thing so i want to be able to talk about it in the next few meetings i'm going to bring up a discussion item um the business community the economic development community the transportation community the tourism community all keep bringing up the concept of a charter amendment changing the name of broward county to lauderdale county and um i think that this is something that we should really be talking about from a commission it can be placed on the ballot without us there there are a lot of reasons why people are talking about that for jobs economic development there's really no cost to anybody within the and i'll leave this for the conversation but i'm going to add this to a future agenda um i know that 14 cities in of the 31 already have a derivation of lauderdale in their name kind of so it's just something i think we should talk about they spoke about it at one of the conferences i was at with the uli about you know miami-dade county used to be metropolitan dade county and it became miami-dade county obviously palm beach county is what it is and people know where it is broward county is um having an issue with that about people knowing where and and how to do that i just think it's worth having a conversation i don't want to have it now but i'm going to bring it in the next few meetings i just wanted to let you know so this didn't come off as like a surprise and everyone get bombarded but you gotta remember broward was also miami-dade county bank i don't know there'll be some history people i'm sure there'll be people that will talk about it i just want to open this up to a real conversation so that it goes you know it's going to have to be something voters would have to vote on because it's the first sentence of our charter so something to talk about it's been a it's actually been a topic of conversation at the tdc a lot of people are talking about this in the in the community for a lot of reasons and there there there might be a lot of benefits for this but we'll talk about it okay uh senator giller thank you mr mayor um is yours on thank you mr mayor unfortunately i was at the safford regional planning council meeting yesterday and had to miss the grand opening i i've heard only great things about it though and look forward to being there for fitzy and i think it's tomorrow but could be thursday i think it's thursday in there um first mr mayor would like to uh congratulate you on your excellent responses to the sheriff um both in a newspaper article which appeared yesterday and your response which was in the sun sentinel today um i've been devoting disproportionate amounts of my time to preparing um responses dealing with the other the the governor and the cfo um let me say a couple of things about that if you look at the cfo's uh doge of broward county um turns out that um the numbers that he is using are not the generally accepted numbers so just there are three numbers that he used that we need to be aware of the first one is the number from our budget book but he used one number for the starting in 2020 and a different separate number uh not an updated one but a different line item number for the 2025 uh additionally the commonly accepted number for in the state of florida for population growth is the university of florida i forget what bieber stands for bureau of economic and it's the second something statistic no business business research okay new is bureau of economic something research right but the uh the bieber numbers are the ones that almost every local government uses to determine population change cfo did not use that number uh we don't exactly know what source he did use but it wasn't that and finally um the number that clearly should be used for inflation is the inflation number cpi for the msa dade broward palm beach uh when asked what number he used he he said well it was a combination of local state and national numbers i don't care what the number is in iowa i only care what the inflation number was in broward in case anybody asks you you should be aware that if you use the correct numbers the bieber number on population growth the msa number in this area and the correct comparable number in the budget book the same line item number we actually met the statistics that the goal set forth by the chief financial officer we are within what he said was a reasonable number uh i have sent lengthy boring emails to my constituents uh you know multi-page emails explaining in painful detail our budget numbers if anybody would like those i will send them to the county attorney's office and the county attorney's office can make those emails available to you if you want to either read them to have a better understanding or possibly share them with your constituents but this is the issue that will be defining um where broward county goes um i'm on the executive committee florida association of counties this has been the top issue there um it appears and we probably do need to share this with the business community it appears that now what they're talking about doing is not eliminating property taxes because of the the eight proposals it seems at least seven of them uh exempt the school board taxes because other than that they'd have to come clearly from the state so there will still be tax bills they just want to dramatically affect cities and counties but not school boards and it's unclear about the other district special districts um additionally it now appears that they're talking about limiting it to residential this would be and there's eight plans that have been filed uh one of the major concerns is what happens if two or three of them pass they would be cumulative um we're gonna we need to explain to our constituents before the legislature places things on the ballot the effect that eliminating property taxes even residential taxes would have on our services it would be a devastating impact on our services unless we just turn around and increase it on commercial i guess we could pass the tax cut along onto commercial property owners but if we don't do that the effect on our services will be devastating and once there's something on the ballot we cannot discuss this or we cannot you know campaign on this to our voters which is why i'm doing it now and urge the rest of you to do so we can't educate we can't advocate we can't yeah but that's a thin line and you know that the governor will say oh you're when i'm doing it it's educating when you're doing it it's campaigning exactly um commissioner rogers and then i'll come back to you thank you mr mayor i think i'm going to start where senator nanrich ended and her words were quality of life and resiliency and i'm going to take us back to quality of life and climate change and now it's affecting homes that are older those senior homes and i've been talking about afford those might be the affordable homes in certain communities certain cities and i am not seeing a focus i didn't see it in the budget because i mentioned i didn't see it unless someone wants to tell me that we do recognize that climate change does impact a community that's already challenged if they're living in homes that are older and they are not hardened then that air condition bill is going to be a little bit higher whatever they're doing the cost of living for that population is higher i'm still going to be talking about it as i move forward this year and hopefully at some point in time there'll be some amendment passed so that we can help those properties that are aging and we have no funding if we want to see our kids coming back into our communities and not staying where they went to schools we have to take a look that they can't afford uh 1800 a month rent either so i don't consider that affordable it's still very costly and there's no investment in it for families all you're doing is paying rent i am excited about this year and what we will continue the foreign trade zone discussion where the tour is booked out and the session that is being hosted by me just to have that conversation and keep the foreign trade zone at the forefront of our discussion because we know it's a very it's an economical tool it is a resource that we recognize here and value in broward county last weekend we had our miami broward carnival or we can call it broward miami one carnival but the impact on south florida and broward and miami was great i had good time i did not attend juve that's when you play in mud like your children but it's a part of the culture of carnival and all of that and yes we did have a large influence of caribbean cultures at that event and caribbean culture like the indian culture is so very diverse but it's entertaining and interesting so i spent my weekend doing that i will continue to engage and listen to district nine resident because they're very vocal so there's nothing that they don't know and sometimes it surprises me how they get to the information before it even gets to me this week i'm just i'm excited about um what we're doing as it relates to the convention center and yes i am happy that broward county event is the first event that's hosted at the new convention center i'm excited about that i will share with you what i do whenever i after i review the agenda with staff if there's anything on it that impacts a city in my district i am sharing that in information not with staff i'm sharing it with the mayor and commissioners and i think that's that protects me and covers me so if someone called me i said i did share it i saw it don't know everything about it but i wanted you to know that this is happening at the commission meeting so that is what i do to keep my district informed i don't send it to staff i send it to the elected official because oftentimes the elected don't get that information and get it timely so that is where it is possible thank you so that is it for me for now and of course um that's it been it's going to be a long day because we have that 12 30 with we do we do have that 12 30 so i'll save all of my other comments for the next time we meet but looking forward to working with everyone and of course continue to advocate for housing affordable housing and helping looking for that pilot program to help our seniors with roofing condos with roofing we can do it it just has to be a pilot to see how best we get this to work but we have to help our seniors and we have to help our condo owners i thank you okay senator richard you forgot something i had one thing and i was going to just follow up on senator some of what senator geller said and just as i hope that all of you are out there using our budget brochure because i have to tell you monica um monica and i had the same reaction from people at different places where we felt it was people that should have known and were shocked at what they saw and how the money is distributed and how we only get 26 percent of the dollar versus people thinking that we get all of it somehow i mean it's it's 25 excuse me 26 for the uh cities uh but it it's it's it's really you you stand up and you talk to people about it and then they say oh you know i i'd like to have that even if you don't have the brochure with you if you just have it on your email you know you can just email it and and and yeah and yeah i have mine and it was there and but i find that it's such a way to get into this conversation and then it's so clear about all the services we provide and we do it on that 25 percent uh and then it also shows the sheriff so it you know it gives the kind of the total picture but i it's shocking to me um i i used it the area agency on aging which i chair and we have a lot of people who know a lot about non-profits they're they're they're you know they they are officers they're involved in them and yet it was like really totally new information to them so i think we could really use that a lot it will help us because ultimately if whatever is going to go on the ballot i mean we're going to have to explain it so that's i think you're going to have to print a lot commissioner i forgot something no no thank you so much uh i know we a little of time but i just wanted there's there's so much misinformation out there in today's world with with social media and so forth and tomorrow night at six o'clock at the emily olsen center of pompano beach the florida department and environmental protection the state of florida uh counties accommodating them are going to talk about the segment two beach re-nourishment in the pompano beach and there's been now been words like uh the state and the county are taking away lands from people and they're going to come all the way back to the intercoaster they're going to go into your canals i mean just absolutely just total nonsense but what is most important for people to know is that this is beach re-nourishment this is going to continue to keep our beaches active and enough sand to be able to have along the east coast which i happen to represent so just wanted to get it out there to the constituents out there that this is a good thing and please this is a statutory issue that we do uh tomorrow night at six o'clock and and and please uh if you have any questions contact my office and we'll get to the truth thank you great that's great um i'll go i had just a ton of stuff going on but uh with regard to the editorial i'm trying to set the right tone if i'm if for some reason i'm not let me know okay but it's uh i'm not i know but i i thought it was important to say that what it was and um and i do think you know if we can actually get some information on what that budget is and reveal it i think it's good right can i ask you a question sure and just like you you know how strongly you feel i mean we all feel strongly um i thought and i think that uh when we came out of um our budget process and and we got our pulse from our community um i don't think we need to entertain these folks that don't use factual information to paint a picture of what we're doing you guys are doing it before i got here um you're doing it now and i just think we don't and it's just me thinking and maybe it could help you as you um continue your dialogue uh because i don't see nothing that we do that's going to change the mindset of the individuals that think um what they think about what it is they think think so i think the more we put put fuel on the fire i just think it just i'm always optimistic it's just me um and i don't think you know either side is really listen i know we care about what we have done and i see that here on this day is each and every time that we uh we turn the lights on so i'm just saying i don't give them credence because i've dealt with brown county property taxes and what they're taking from us is coming out of their budgets and what they think about me um um that's not going to change how i treat this county and what i have to do as a brown county commissioner so just fruit for thought a fruit for thought um likewise all of us who are the convention center yesterday that's the first time i've really had a chance to look at it it's cool just blown away just blown away looking out that window looking at the intercoastal looking at the bridge the big cruise ships and they weren't even finished on on the bottom oh my gosh what a place to have a conference and i know when we voted on that six years ago i guess is it six years now when were you when were you mayor 2021 okay the the hotel were in 22 i think the convention that was was for the hotel in 22. but i remember that i mean i remember that was like the biggest biggest vote i've ever had to take and i and i said there's a there was a zero there for each one of us all nine of us and you know we could have our little pictures in there um but to see that to see that um come to fruition after all of that after all those discussions it's just amazing just amazing so everybody for everybody to everybody who is involved on that great work just great work and then to be able to have the connector to me it's a shortcut home that's all it's a connector but it's a shortcut home for me so it's great um yeah definitely shortcut uh senator richard mentioned the resilience round table i honestly thought this was the best one one we had the resiliency plan to to go over but the army corps of engineer was there along with south florida water management district and they have been working overtime to get that bill ready for congress this next year to make sure that we are able to fund those big pumps out in the western part of our county and they just they they explained it what they had done where they they got it done they got they got the the plan ready to go and that was a very aggressive timetable but they were you know just wonderful work i think the public is now being invited to have input on it but tremendous work on that um i also was able to we had a two-day um workshop with just all these different people on the management plan for the uh kristin kristin jacobs coral reef preserve um that is now that that was done with all the epa the coral reef people from feds epa dpa and just a two-day long just knocked it out and so that's ready for public input as well over the next couple months um the epa state epa did a very good job on that um at ceftec which is the southeast florida transportation council on friday we passed a resolution in support of uh continued funding for tri-rail um that's important because it's all three counties they're saying we need you know we all agree with this we agree with and i think uh cory has done a great job and admin has done a great job of realizing that you know they want us to pay for the whole thing basically but if even if we weren't part of it there's still amtrak there and and if you and and there's contracts and obligations there so a good part of it still has to be done you know i i don't know where we're going to end up but um i i think the work that we're doing was was um appreciated um by the other three counties the other two counties also with the so flow go the new app that that connects everybody they they were they showed how it's all working if you get a chance have somebody show it to you because it it can you know anybody visiting no matter how you want to go anywhere it will tell you where how long how much it's going to cost all those different things all the different ways that you can get there um taxi uber this it is missing bicycles i was a little disappointed on that i know steve i know you were disappointed on that but i uh i know i know i said what in the world what are you thinking i know exactly yeah uh the alliance dinner uh just was uh like i guess a week and a half cool what i was amazed there is you know normally you i think we hear when new businesses are coming in but because they had didn't have incentives on this there were all kinds of businesses and big businesses that were making or making broward their home if you get a chance look at the new alliance report look at all the new companies that have come in huge pharmaceutical companies huge aircraft companies the biggest engines in the world being built here so it's like well yeah it's yeah i mean it was just like i i i would have thought i'd heard of a few of them but it was a it was a a wonderful surprise um with that i i do want to thank trevor for all his work um i've had a chance and the privilege of working with him on transportation on solid waste and on public uh works issues on various things and he's been a pleasure to work with and i just want to wish him the best and i think that's it and with that i will go to bob i'm sorry commissioner rogers how did you miss it it will be a discussion item okay that i'm going to put on and it has to do with the process for selecting our mayors just a discussion i don't know if everyone fully understands the process okay i need to get a clearer on this standard okay so that would be happy bob yes sir um i wanted to take a couple minutes and thank my staff uh today on the agenda that you had a quality assurance review for our office and uh you know it's just a few pages it may not look like anything of much significance but um it took a monumental effort to get to this point that is the first independent quality assurance review that the auditor's office has ever had it was one of my major goals when i first came on board to get that done and it involved the entire staff it's taken several years to get things up to snuff to where they they should really be and it's i think it's very important to be able to answer the question of who audits the auditor and this is how it's done and this is as close to an accreditation as you can get in the audit world there is no formal accreditation but it's this process that does it so uh i just want to thank the staff and involved everybody and it's an honor to lead such a professional group great job i didn't want to pull these items but it was a great job and i think our auditor's office does a fantastic job i agree um it's not always it's sometimes it's a thankless job but it's one of the most important jobs that we have in government um and and our office our auditor's office unlike some audits we see i don't know how you can audit a multi-billion dollar budget and just look at half of it but we look at everything when we do it so some audits that i've seen that we've been a part of you know we've turned over 55 000 terabytes of data and that was only half of the data because we weren't asked for the other half and i'm sure we'd love to turn all over all our data if we turned over 55 000 terabytes we can certainly turn over 110 million gigabytes or whatever it is but we were never asked to do that you can't do an audit in my book unless you look at everything um so thank you for the great job that you do with your audits to be clear we've turned over all the data we've had right not the you know what i'm assuming we did if they don't ask us for any of the data i mean we should be telling them you're not asking us for everything if we have a budget of 2.x million dollars and we're only turning over 1.2 million dollars we should figure out a way to turn it over to them whether it's allowed by law or not that's what the that's how i audit that's what my understanding would uh but bob i was impressed that you were auditing yourself i think that's and if you ever get a chance and i told monica this i said if you ever get a chance to look up look up the heisenberg principle and it's and it's absolutely to that take a good look at it um monica go ahead i did bring that up at dinner the other night okay all right so uh um first i wanted to thank you all for um your continued support of the team uh you know as you see there's a tremendous amount of work happening behind the scenes bringing all these uh amazing projects uh to fruition um the uh the loggerhead um mooring um i know you you you didn't mention i was gonna do it i thought i'd be on the back end of that but uh mayor uh i know you and i were there last uh friday i guess it was the 10th october 10th between the last commission meeting and now um a really great opportunity and partnership um at our county park county facility within the city of hollywood amazing opportunity to kind of get an eyesore out of there for many years as well with cleaned up the waters and everything they're like uh boats and um and we're seeing sea life on on the boat tour that i took that afternoon or that morning we even saw dolphins so it was incredible to watch the the uh the natural um sea life just coming back it's really nice it's cleaning up the area um yesterday's event amazing um took took a herculean effort and it continues to take that i will tell you uh we're trying to get that hotel um in for a landing as well that will be the the really the pinnacle of this entirety of the project um but thank you uh for those of you who were able to make it yesterday as well and and certainly for always um continuing to support that um and it is truly a connector so uh and i really believe it i think i think it will be um a really great thing when the whole complex is thriving and and awake there as you will um senator geller i wanted to publicly congratulate you didn't share it with the group but you also um uh last week i think some of my team went to the breakfast for junior achievement um where you were being recognized for a celebration of impact as a government partner so thank you for uh your your share and representing the county um as well in that endeavor uh tomorrow um fitzy starts uh the the grand um opening ceremony 10 a.m i mean 8 to 10 a.m sorry um as you know that room is packed from the first thing in the morning and people will get there at 6 30 in the morning as well um very excited to to get that kicked off tomorrow um and it was very apropos to have that ribbon cutting um to you know yesterday so that is the very first thing we have uh tomorrow uh and thank you commissioner davis i know that uh you are really uh interested in pushing hard to get that as part of that new um to utilize that space right away and fortunately um the the construction folks were able to bring that in um for landing on the perfect time with that so um october 30th please mark your calendars i don't know that we've heard back from any of you but um nsu broward innovation center um there's been an invite sent to each of you um that we're doing they wanted to do a plaque um ceremony uh to commemorate the innovation center um and it's at 11 30 in the morning on october 30th at nsu um love to see you there um the president of nsu will be there along with alan levan and the rest of the folks there and the new executive director you'll be able to meet as well so make sure you double check um your calendars for that i think that will be a really great um event and then of course um wanted to wish uh trevor the best and now his last day on paper is not until the end of november but his last day with us in the office i think he's gonna take some time off on paper um so just wanted to wish him the best and i know we've been able to to say that a few times so thank you okay great anika nothing official just thanks for having me up here today and um renee and i continue to hold
