A few months ago, the county manager, in response to some very confusing information that has been circulating around our state, she instructed and challenged communications and Tommy Crosby's shop, budget and finance, to come up with an easy-to-understand, the tagline is, you shouldn't have to have a finance degree to understand the county's finances. And we took that challenge, and with the manager's guidance throughout, we put together Sense and Sensibility, which you've been hearing about. We're kind of excited now, though, because now we have put it together into one publication. We will be pushing this out by press release a little bit later today and on social media. And we've done it in such a way that it opens like a book. The table of contents is all interactive. You can click on the chapter, and it will forward to that point. This is about 40 pages long. A recent report that came out from the state was about 70 pages long. This one is much easier to understand. And if the public would invest reading 40 pages, you will have an understanding of county budgets that very few people have. It is bite-sized chapters, how to influence the budget, what the general fund is, what property taxes are, and how they work. A particularly important chapter is Chapter 4, unfunded mandates from the state of Florida. It explains how since the 70s there have been hundreds of unfunded mandates that directly affect how you budget every year. Why budgets grow over time, how reserves work, the total budget, much more than just property taxes, and then a look forward at where you're going that is based on the three pillars of your recent strategic guide. So we urge people to go through the chapters and take a look. It's really an amazing and simple way to understand our budget. And I wanted to just take a second and acknowledge Andrew Kaplan and Brett Bostock in my office, who did an enormous amount of work on this. Also, Tommy Crosby and Maureen Riccitelli, who also did enormous work on this. So we're very proud of this, and we think it's going to be a very useful tool for our residents.
